Hello, I’m Jason Shults, the owner and craftsman behind Sword and Shield Bible Rebinding.
A search for a new preaching Bible led to the beginning of this work. For many years in ministry, I preached from Bibles that were chosen for me or given by family and friends. After nearly two decades, I began to develop specific convictions about what I wanted in a preaching Bible – something durable, carefully constructed and with a distinct yet respectful custom appearance.
As I began exploring custom rebinding, I quickly found work that was so beautifully done that, if I’m honest, it led to a little unhealthy coveting. However, the price tags were often beyond what I could reasonably afford on a ministry budget. That led me to ask a simple question: how difficult could it be to do this myself? The answer, as it turns out, was not simple. My early attempts made that clear. (You won’t be seeing pictures of them. They’re not for public consumption!) But as with any craft, persistence brings progress. Over time, through repeated effort and careful attention to detail, the work improved.
After years of honing this craft, I am now able to offer custom leather Bible covers and rebinding services to others – whether for a new Bible like the one I sought, or a Bible that has been worn through years of faithful use.
I specialize in crafting custom leather covers for new Bibles, as well as carefully rebinding and restoring those that have worn with time. Each project is built with an emphasis on durability, usability, and long-term service. If you trust me with your Bible, it will be worked by hand using quality materials and time-tested methods. The goal is not simply appearance, but a binding that will hold up to regular use over time.
The name Sword and Shield is drawn from Scripture:

I live in Central Illinois with my wife, Joy – who doubles as the best packaging department in the industry. We have three wonderful daughters and are now enjoying life as grandparents.
